Love collecting lighthouse elongated coins? They you need to add this set of St. Augustine lighthouse pressed pennies to your collection! There are four different designs.
It takes 219 steps to reach the top of the St. Augustine lighthouse and the reward for your effort is a breathtaking view of St. Augustine and the surrounding water.
We visited St. Augustine on our last trip to Florida. After spending the day at the beach (it was my daughters’ first time seeing the ocean!), we arrived at the lighthouse too late to purchase a ticket to tour it and climb to the top. So I had to be content to seeing it from the outside and pressing a set of pennies.

St Augustine Lighthouse Pressed Penny Designs
Currently two of the elongated penny designs at the St. Augustine lighthouse are not lighthouse related, but they are specific to the St. Augustine area. All of the designs are vertical.

Lighthouse elongated penny #1
This smashed penny design features the St. Augustine Lighthouse and the text “I climbed St. Augustine Lighthouse” surrounding the image.
Lighthouse elongated penny #2
This smashed penny design features the St. Augustine Lighthouse and the text “Florida Lighthouse Trail” on the top and “St. Augustine” on the bottom.
Bridge of Lions elongated penny
This smashed penny design depicts one of the iconic lion statues that greet you crossing the Bridge of Lions. The Bridge of Lions is a drawbridge that takes you from St. Augustine to Anastasia Island.
St Augustine Tall Ship elongated penny
If you are visiting St. Augustine, it is likely you will see some of the tall ships sailing down the Matanzas River. One of those tall ships is depicted on this smashed penny design.
We took this photo on our last trip to St. Augustine. It was quite cool to see the Bridge of Lions drawbridge lifted to allow one of the tall ships to pass underneath.
St. Augustine Lighthouse Pressed Penny Machine Location
St Augustine Lighthouse
81 Lighthouse Avenue
St. Augustine, Florida 32080
If you are making a special trip to this location just to press pennies, you might want to call to verify that the machine is still there before you go.
This is an electric machine, but you supply your own pennies. You can get to this machine without paying for admission to the lighthouse. When we visited, all the tours were full for the day. Fortunately though, we could still access the machine, which is located in the movie room.
